November Book Discussion
Sitting Pretty: The View from my Ordinary Resilient Disabled Body
For this month’s book discussion, we will be reading the UW Go Big Read selection by Rebekah Taussig. Rebekah writes about growing up paralyzed in the 90’s and early 2000’s. She discusses how she wished for more stories that allowed disabilities to be complex and ordinary and uncomfortable and fine. She also discusses the complications of kindness and charity, and so much more. Disability affects all of us whether its directly or indirectly at one time or another. Sitting Pretty challenges us as a society to be patient and vigilant, practical and imaginative, kind and relentless, as we set to work to write an entirely different story. We will be discussing this book twice in the month of November: Wednesday, November 20 at 1:30 pm & Monday, November 25 at 5:30 pm *Make a special note with the weather changing and daylight savings, we will be making our Monday night book discussion available both in person and online via zoom. You can join our book discussion from anywhere! Call the library ahead of time and we’ll send you a link*
